No Refusal Initiative 4th of July 2022

The Fourth of July celebrations are right around the corner in Austin, Texas and with covid restrictions
easing up it should feel like the good old days. Just like every big holiday weekend in Austin expect a
“No Refusal“ initiative to happen for July 4th weekend for the greater Austin area and Lake Travis. The
“No Refusal” doesn’t just apply to those operating a motor vehicle on the road (which would be a DWI

be a BWI boating while intoxicated).

The July 4, 2021 weekend No Refusal initiative concluded with 22 arrests made for driving while
intoxicated offenses:
Total DWI arrests during No Refusal period= 22
Blood Search Warrants: 8
Consent Breath Samples: 10
Consent Blood Samples: 4
Of those arrests, the following number had enhanced DWI charges:
Consent Breath Samples over .15= 8
Class A Misd DWI (with prior conviction) = 2
Felony DWI (2 or more prior convictions) = 2
Felony DWI Child Passenger = 0
Intoxication Assault = 0
Intoxication Manslaughter= 0
